Kidney problem caused by Lupus is called Lupus Nephritis which can cause so many symptoms. Swelling, which is also called edema and fluid retention, is a common symptom related to kidney damage. If you want to know if you are suffering from kidney problem, you can take routine blood test and routine urine test. The most commonly used medical indicators for kidney disease include:

1. Serum creatinine level

2. BUN (Blood Urea Nitrogen) level

Urea nitrogen is a waste produced in our body. In normal condition, it is cleared away from our body by kidney. When kidneys are damaged, kidney function decline, as a result of which, BUN level increases. Therefore, high BUN level also indicates kidney problem. Reference value for BUN level is 9-20mg/dL.
