Hi, thanks for emailing us, and also you can consult our doctors online doctor if necessary. I am so sorry to hear your daughter is suffering Nephrotic Syndrome and terrible cough. And I really hope I can do something to help your lovely girl get recovery.

Nephrotic Syndrome is a refractory illness in medicine, as the cure of it still remains challenging. That is to say, Nephrotic Syndrome can not be cured so far. But please do not worry, because as long as effective treatment is given timely, your daughter can live as well as others.

You mentioned cough in your email and wonder if it can be sign of Nephrotic Syndrome. Actually, there is no direct relationship between them, but clinical studies show that long-term usage of some hormone medicines like prednisone and cellcept will cause cough problem. Prednisone and cellcept are commonly used medications for Nephrotic Syndrome patients and they show quick and obvious treatment effects in bringing illness under control. However, the problem is they always cause many side effects if used for a long time. This is the reason why some parents refuse to give their children hormone medications. I do not know if your lovely daughter is taking these medications, so it is hard for me to tell why she is suffering repeated cough. I suggest you send her test report and the name of medicines she is taking to chinakidneytherapy@gmail.com, our nephrologists will help to figure out the causes of her cough and then reply with practical management methods. Hope it is helpful for you.

Lastly, cough may just be one of the side effects of some medications used by your daughter and as long as an alternative drug is given to replace this medicine, cough problem is solved fundamentally. However, as for Nephrotic Syndrome, I suggest you bring your daughter to the right treatment. In many cases, patients are just prescribed with medicine that can help to control symptoms. These medicines are helpful, but they can not improve kidney function. Therefore, when they reduce medicine dose or stop taking it, illness relapses. Your daughter is so young and there is a long way for her to go in her life and I really hope she can live as healthily and happily as others. Hope your daughter recover soon.
