In end stage of CKD, kidneys have lost almost all of their working ability. Under such a condition,we must improve kidney function or find a replacement method to keep blood clean, otherwise, wastes that should be eliminated will damage our internal organs, which is very life-threatening. Well, what causes our kidneys to get damaged?

Common causes for kidney damage:

1. Years of Diabetes

Based on clinical statistics, diabetes is the leading one cause of kidney damage. Diabetes is marked by persistent high blood sugar which increases kidney burden. Therefore, people with years of diabetes are very likely to develop kidney problem and this usually starts from leaking protein in urine.

2. High blood pressure

High blood pressure is also called hypertension which refers to high impact on vascular wall. Kidney is an important internal organ with bean-shape and one of the major jobs of it is to filter blood. Therefore, in our kidneys, there are numbers of renal blood vessels which are damaged easily by long-term high blood pressure.

3. Infection

Frequent infection like UTI(Urinary Tract Infection) can also lead to kidney damage. UTI is usually accompanied with symptoms like frequent urination, urgent urination and burning sensation during urination. Antibiotics are helpful in such a case.

4. Improper usage of some medicines

Improper usage of some medicines like pain-killers and antibiotics are harmful for kidney and this may cause kidneys to be damaged.

5. Some immune disease

Some immune diseases like SLE(Systemic Lupus Erythematosus) and Purpura are also common causes for kidney problem. In such a case, besides timely treatment for kidney damage, tight control of primary illness is also very important.

Chronic Kidney Disease can be primary or secondary. No matter what the cause is, timely and effective treatment play a very important role. For patients who get their kidney damages repaired timely, they can live a normal life again, but for these who fail to do so, their illness progresses to kidney failure finally. At that time, dialysis and kidney transplant are usually required.
