Can You Be Put In Hospital Due to CKD Stage 3

You might suffer no physical discomforts at all with CKD stage 3, but you must know there is risk for you to be put in hospital due to this illness. Read on to learn what risk you are running now with CKD stage 3.

Actually, CKD stage 3 is not the worst kidney condition. In medicine, Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is divided into 5 stages on the basis of GFR (Glomerular Filtration Rate). Dialysis or kidney transplant is required when CKD develops to stage 5. That is to say, for these who have CKD stage 3, their kidney problem is not serious enough to put them on dialysis or kidney transplant list. However, this does not mean, they can live normally just as healthy people.

Can You Be Put In Hospital Due to CKD Stage 3

In our body, kidneys play multiple roles. They not only cleanse blood, but also adjust blood pressure, secrete hormone, maintain electrolyte balance and so on. In CKD stage 3, although dialysis is not required, but sufferers run following risks which may put them in hospital:

1. Very high blood pressure

Healthy kidneys can adjust our blood pressure, so as to control it in normal range. In cases of CKD, kidneys may fail to do this job well, and thus lead to very high blood pressure. Remember you are in a very dangerous condition when your blood pressure is higher than 180/110mmHg.

2. Very high potassium level in blood

Electrolyte disturbance is a common complication of kidney disease. In Cases of CKD stage 3, kidneys may fail to control potassium level, phosphorus level, calcium level and sodium level in normal range. Elevated potassium level is very dangerous, which may require patients to hospitalize, because persistent high blood potassium level is very harmful for our heart. Immediate medical action is needed when potassium level is higher than 5.5.

3. Severe anemia

Mild anemia is not life-threatening and also can be alleviated by diet. However, for severe anemia, if no treatment is given to tightly control it, it will affect our breath system, nerve system, digestive system and so on. Blood transfusion might be needed in very severe condition.

All in all, CKD stage 3 is not as severe as stage 4 or stage 5, but high attention should be attached, because we may be put in hospital due to its life-threatening complications.
