Does Fatigue Come From CKD Stage 3

Does Fatigue Come From CKD Stage 3CKD is not only a problem regarding kidney, but an illness that may cause various symptoms. Even know many patients know about this fact, when they experience fatigue, they may wonder if it is related with their kidney problem. CKD stage 3 is not a very severe stage, but why do some sufferers suffer from fatigue? Does fatigue come from CKD stage 3?

Fatigue is a feeling of weakness that can range from simple tiredness to total exhaustion. Although CKD stage 3 is not as serious as we think, it may cause persistent fatigue to reduce quality of life. In practice, when a kidney disease sufferer complains fatigue, a checkup for anemia is usually put into consideration, because anemia is the most common cause of fatigue in CKD. Anemia associated with kidney disease is clinically called renal anemia which may appear due to severe iron deficiency, low EPO (erythropoietin) production and short life span of red blood cells due to high levels of toxins in blood. In CKD stage 3, the anemia-induced fatigue is always accompanied with some other discomforts like pale skin, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, shortness of breath, insomnia and unusually rapid heart beat, particularly with exercises.

Anemia is the major cause of fatigue in CKD, but not the only cause. Besides it, fatigue may also appear as a side effect of certain drugs. Dialysis or kidney transplant is not needed when CKD is in stage 3, but many oral medicines are needed to bring its symptoms like high blood pressure, fluid retention, proteinuria and hematuria under control. Frequent fatigue might be caused due to the long-term usage of a certain medicine.

CKD stage 3-induced fatigue is not life-threatening, but if goes untreated, it will seriously affect the lives of sufferers. For an instance, patients may be not able to concentrate on their work due to lacking of energy and in some cases, they even have to quit their job. Therefore, when fatigue appears, medical measures are needed to find out the real cause and bring it under control.
