Kidney Disease: Healthy Eating on New Year

Kidney Disease: Healthy Eating on New YearIt is really happy to spend new year with our friends and family. In this special day, we may have great party to celebrate and enjoy this festival. A party is always accompanied with various delicious foods and funny show, which can create a great atmosphere. However, if you are a kidney disease sufferer, you may not be able to enjoy the delicious foods freely. You need to pay much more attention on foods you eat, so as to avoid further harm on kidney.

In general, you will be benefited greatly if you can eat as below:

1. Stay far away from high-sodium foods

Actually, we are suggested to have low-salt diet when there is kidney problem because salt is rich in sodium. High sodium diet not only elevates blood pressure, but also trigger fluid retention. Therefore, foods high in sodium are mostly salted foods and some processed foods like bacon, processed cheese, ketchup, various sauce, meat pizza and so on. Please remember to eat less these foods.

2. You can have some high quality protein

If you are not on dialysis, you need to limit protein intake, but if you have already started dialysis, you need to increase your daily protein intake. Daily protein intake is based on specific illness condition, but no matter you are no dialysis or not, high quality protein which can be found in fish, egg white, lean meat and milk are always highly recommended.

3. Remember to have low-fat diet

When our kidneys are damaged, we are easily to suffer hyperlipemia which may further worsen our health condition, so please possible, please avoid high lipid foods like fatty meats, fried foods, cream and so on.

4. Pay attention to your potassium level and phosphorus level

With kidney disease, you might be suggested to have low-potassium and low-phosphorus diet, and this is because kidney disease causes hyperkalemia and hyperphosphatemia easily. Therefore, you should have regular checkup about your potassium and phosphorus level, so that you can know if you can take high potassium foods like banana, spinach, avocado, nuts and so on.

Actually, what foods to eat and what not to eat are determined according to specific illness condition. If you want to have detailed diet suggestion, you can leave your contact information and illness condition to us.
