Foods for Kidney Disease Patients with Low Hemoglobin

Foods for Kidney Disease Patients with Low HemoglobinChronic Kidney Disease is a common cause of low hemoglobin which always brings lots of symptoms like tiredness, pale complexion, sweating and shortness of breath. Eating right foods helps to alleviate this condition, so knowing what foods to eat and what foods to avoid is very important for kidney disease patients with low hemoglobin.

Foods to eat for kidney disease patients with low hemoglobin

Hemoglobin is the major component of red blood cell, so low hemoglobin level always indicates anemia which is a very common medical condition in our daily life. For kidney disease patients, iron-deficiency is a possible cause for the decrease of red blood cell, so to alleviate low hemoglobin condition, ingesting iron is very necessary. In our daily diet, foods with dark color like black sesame, black fungus, ormosia and red dates are all high in iron, so adding them into dinner table is very helpful for treating or preventing low hemoglobin associated with iron deficiency. Besides, foods high in vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 like beef, chicken, milk and shellfish are also recommended, as it is said they are able to raise hemoglobin level.

Foods to avoid for kidney disease patients with low hemoglobin

Due to impaired kidney, foods eaten by kidney disease patients should be helpful for protecting residual kidney function. On the basis of this, the following foods are usually excluded from the diet of kidney disease patients:

1. High-sodium foods like salted foods and processed foods.

2. High potassium foods like banana, spinach, raisin, white beans, avocados and white mushrooms also need to be avoided if lab tests show elevated potassium level in blood.

3. Greasy foods and spicy foods are also a forbidden by kidney disease patients with low hemoglobin.

4. Kidney disease patients with low hemoglobin also need to avoid drinking coffee as polyphenols contained by it can affect our body from absorbing enough iron, which is not helpful for increasing hemoglobin in blood.

In cases of kidney disease, low hemoglobin may result from different conditions and decline of EPO (erythropoietin) which is normally secreted by our kidneys is one of an important factor. In that cases, aside from scientific diet, medical treatment is also needed. Micro-Chinese Medicine is a relatively new treatment method for impaired kidney function. With this treatment, not only impaired kidney function can be improved, low hemoglobin also can be alleviated fundamentally.
