How Do I Know If My Kidneys Are Shutting Down

How Do I Know If My Kidneys Are Shutting DownHow do you know when your kidneys are shutting down? The kidneys perform important functions in the body by filtering wastes and maintaining adequate fluid levels in the body. When kidneys get something wrong, there are several signs which help you know the kidneys are shutting down.

1. Urine output decrease

It is one of the most common symptoms. As the filtering of the kidneys declines, urine output usually declines as well.

2. Fluid retention

When the kidneys are no longer performing as they should do, excess fluid cannot be filtered out of the body and will accumulate in the body. Thus, patients will experience swelling. The swelling usually appears in the interstitial space of the skin like face, hands, legs, ankles and feet. With the progression of kidney disease, fluid retention can spread to any part of your body.

3. Drowsiness and fatigue

When kidneys begin to fail, excess waste products are in the body. In this condition, drowsiness and fatigue will occur. In addition, kidney disease prevents the kidneys from producing enough red blood cells which can lead to anemia.

4. Confusion, seizure and coma

The accumulated waste products are no longer being expelled from the body, which can lead to confusion, seizure and coma. Also the toxins can affect the function of the brain and other organs.

5. Chest pain

Excess fluid will place much pressure on the heart and there are sac that surrounds the heart. Due to these two reasons, chest pain can be caused.

Symptoms of kidneys shutting down also include fatigue, poor appetite, weird taste in your mouth or not liking certain foods, itchy skin, nausea and so on. You also may have different symptoms depending on your own body. Due to space limit here, I cannot list all signs of kidney shutting down. Any discomforts, just feel free to tell me. And I will provide suggestions both on diet and treatment.
