Can A Failed Kidney Go Back to Normal

Can A Failed Kidney Go Back to NormalCan a failed kidney go back to normal? We can not live without healthy kidney, so we need to take some measures when kidney failure is caused, so that we can live as freely or normally as before. Well, is it possible for a failed kidney to go back to normal again?

How does kidney work?

The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs, each about the size of a fist. In normal condition, our blood flow into kidney through renal artery and then they pass through glomeruli where they are filtered. During this process, wastes produced in the body, some nutrition and excess fluid are filtered from blood. After that, these fluids pass through renal tubule where nutrition and 90% of the fluid are reabsorbed. In this way, blood is purified. Wastes and fluids that pass through renal tubule are finally excreted out as urine. Besides, kidneys also maintain electrolyte balance and acid-base balance by controlling acidic materials and alkaline substances in the blood.

Can a failed kidney go back to normal?

Kidney works through different kidney tissues, so patients with kidney problem may experience different symptoms. In early stage of kidney problem, only a small part of kidney tissues are injure and kidney function is impaired mildly. Under such a condition, it is possible to get impaired kidney function improved by repairing some injured kidney intrinsic cells. However, if kidneys have shut down completely, it can not go back to normal again, because at that time, no blood can flow into kidney at all, which means there is no way for effective ingredients in medicine to get into kidney to repair kidney. Therefore, a completely failed can not go back to normal.

What to do to rescue a failed kidney?

When kidneys shut down completely, dialysis and kidney transplant are the only two life-sustaining methods. However, if kidneys are failed partly, kidney function can be improved well with the following measures:

1. Tight control of all the symptoms, which is helpful for slowing down illness progress.

2. Repairing of kidney tissues, which is the basic for the improvement of kidney function.

3. Protection of residual kidney tissues. This is also helpful for the prevention of further deterioration of illness.

Completely failed kidneys can not go back to normal again, but for people with partly failed kidney, by improving kidney function, it is quite possible for them to live a normal life.
