What is the diet plan for patients after dialysis? As we all know, kidney failure is a high incident disease. Most patients take dialysis treatment. Besides, diet is also important for patients after dialysis.

What Is The Diet Plan for Patients After DialysisThe following is a diet plan for patients after dialysis:

1. Low protein diet

Patients in kidney failure should consume high quality animal protein such as fresh milk, eggs, fish and lean meat. Eat less bean products and animal organs because these foods will elevate calcium and uric acid level.

2. Potassium

Patients should avoid high potassium foods if their is high potassium level in their blood such as potato, banana, organs.

3. Vitamins

Patients should consume foods with high vitamins especially vitamin B, C and D.

4. Consume fluid and salt

Kidney failure patients are easy to suffer from dehydration and hyponatremia especially for those who have long time of poor appetite, nausea and diarrhea. Once this occurs, patients should consume fluid timely. Avoid too much water intake, otherwise hypernatremia or water poisoning. Kidney patients usually need to follow a low salt diet.

5. Consume calcium and potassium

Some kidney patients have low potassium in blood. This is caused by diuretics. In this condition, patients need to eat some fresh fruits and potassium chloride. Patients with low calcium in blood can eat some high calcium food such as fish and bone soup.

6. Avoid liquor and purine

It is to avoid high uric acid crystal depositing in renal interstitial. This can cause chronic interstitial nephritis so as to damage kidney function.
