Why Do Kidney Failure Patients Feel Nausea Easily in the Morning

Why Do Kidney Failure Patients Feel Nausea Easily in the Morning

Kidney failure is an illness that may involve any part of our body, so it is always accompanied with lots of physical discomforts. One of the most common complains is nausea and it is especially severe in the morning. Why is this?

Why do kidney failure patients feel nausea easily in the morning?

Actually, kidney failure patients may suffer from nausea due to different causes which include:

1. High BUN level

BUN is the abbreviation of Blood Urea Nitrogen which refers to urea nitrogen level in blood. Urea nitrogen is a harmful substance from the digestion of protein. This metabolic waste is normally eliminated by kidney and when kidneys shut down, BUN level increases. Urea nitrogen in the blood stimulates our gastrointestinal tract, which can cause nausea. The concentration of urea nitrogen in blood is especially high in the morning as we seldom drink water at night to dilute our blood, so nausea problem is usually very severe in the morning. Drinking some water in the morning helps to alleviate this condition.

2. Gastrointestinal edema

Kidney is in charge of maintaining fluid balance, but in cases of kidney failure, kidneys can not do this job well. Under such a condition, gastrointestinal edema may occur. This health issue can also be the cause of nausea.

3. Side effect of certain medicine

With kidney failure, we have to take various medicines to bring our illness under control. Many of the oral medications used in kidney failure are harmful for our gastrointestinal tract. Nausea might appear as a side effect of a certain medicine.

As for gastrointestinal discomfort caused by kidney failure, nausea is just one of them and apart from it, kidney failure patients may also suffer from vomiting and if not treatment is given timely, they may even vomit blood. Therefore, once being diagnosed with kidney failure, please take treatment as soon as possible, so as to improve life quality and avoid unexpected sufferings.
