Why Do We Feel Weak Easily with Stage 4 Kidney Failure

Why Do We Feel Weak Easily with Stage 4 Kidney FailureYou may realize you become more weak and have no energy at all after being diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure. Actually, this is a common complain among kidney failure patients, not only these with stage 4 renal failure, but also these with stage 5 kidney failure. However, why do we feel weak easily with stage 4 kidney failure?

Renal Anemia:

As a matter of fact, renal anemia is the most common cause for weakness in stage 4 kidney disease. Anemia refers to low red blood cell count in blood. Red blood cells are round with flattish, indented center, like doughnuts without a hole. It is the most abundant cells in the blood and in charge of carrying oxygen to every part of our body. When red blood cell count is low, our body can not get enough oxygen, which leads to weakness easily.

Healthy kidneys secrete EPO(erythropoietin) which plays an important role for the formation of red blood cells. Damaged kidneys secrete less EPO, leading to low red blood cell. Renal anemia is one of complications of stage 4 kidney failure.

Side effect of certain medicine:

Stage 4 kidney failure is a relatively serious illness condition. In order to bring it under control, we need to take various medicines like hypotensive drugs, water pills, immunosuppressive agents and steroid tablets. These medicines are helpful, but if used for a long time, they will cause many side effects. Weakness may appear as a side effect of them. This is the another possible cause for weakness in stage 4 kidney failure.

Strict diet limitation:

Some foods like processed products and salted foods are harmful for kidney, so we need to avoid them, so as to protect residual kidney function. With stage 4 kidney failure, we need to follow so many diet restrictions, which may stop us from getting enough nutrients. This also cause weakness easily.

Lastly, weakness is just one of the symptoms of stage 4 kidney failure and besides it, there are many others like swelling, dizziness, poor appetite, nausea and so on. Occurrence of these problems are closed linked to impaired kidney function. That is to say, as long as we get kidney function restored, all these problems go away naturally.
