What Can We Do to Avoid Dialysis with Stage 4 Renal Failure

what can we do to avoid dialysis with stage 4 renal failureWhat can we do to avoid dialysis with stage 4 renal failure? Although dialysis is not required in stage 4 renal failure, if we take no actions, illness will develop to stage 5 which requires patients to do dialysis or kidney transplant. Well, what can we do to avoid dialysis when illness is still in stage 4 renal failure?

Dialysis can be avoided for one with stage 4 renal failure if he do as below:

1. Treat primary cause of kidney damages

In many cases, renal failure is secondary to certain illness like Diabetes and Hypertension. Under such a condition, if we do not treat primary cause, further kidney damages will be caused.

2. Tight control of all the symptoms

Our kidneys play multiple roles in our body. When kidney function is affected, we will suffer from various problems like proteinuria, electrolyte balance and fluid retention. Although we can not be cured by treating these symptoms, tight control of them will slow down illness progression, which is also very important for us to get recovery.

3. Repair injured kidney tissues

In a damaged kidney, there are three groups of kidney tissues: healthy kidney tissues, injured kidney tissues and dead kidney tissues. We still can live normally without dialysis with stage 4 renal failure owing to these healthy kidney tissues. For dead kidney tissues, there is nothing we can do, but for injured kidney tissues, they can be repaired well. If we do not do so, injured kidney tissues will be dead finally and also healthy kidney tissues will be damaged. By repairing injured kidney tissues, kidney function can be improved and illness can be reversed.

4. A kidney-friendly diet

Many patients hope to get recovery by daily diet and as for this aspect, I am sorry to tell it is impossible. Even though a kidney-friendly diet is also necessary, because improper diet will add extra burden on kidney, which accelerates illness progression.

A kidney-friendly diet generally include low-salt diet, proper protein intake, high-fiber diet and high-calcium intake. If there is electrolyte disturbance like hyperkalemia and hyperphosphatemia, potassium intake and phosphorus intake also should be limited.

Dialysis is just a renal replacement method and it is required because it can replace failed kidneys to cleanse blood. That is to say, as long as kidney function is improved to the level that is able to maintain the normal life activity, dialysis is not necessary.
