Do We Need Dialysis If Creatinine Level Is 500

do we need dialysis if creatinine level is 500Do we need dialysis if creatinine level is 500? Serum creatinine level is an indicator of kidney function and it helps to make the decision whether dialysis is required. However, this does not mean we can know if dialysis is needed or not just by creatinine level in blood.

What is dialysis done in kidney disease?

Dialysis is always linked with kidney disease, because it can replace failed kidneys to cleanse blood. Our kidneys play very important in our body. It cleanses blood, regulate blood pressure, maintain electrolyte balance, maintain fluid balance and secrete hormone. When kidneys are damaged and not able to do these jobs for some reason, we begin to experience a series of health issues.

Dialysis is a medical procedure in which blood is made out of the body and cleansed outside the body with a medical machine and then clean blood is transfused back to the body through a tube. For kidney failure patients, dialysis helps their failed kidneys to purify blood, which helps to protect their internal organs from being damaged by the toxins that should have been removed by kidney.

How do we know when is dialysis required for a kidney patient?

Serum creatinine level 500 is a really high level, which not means severely impaired kidney function, but also means high levels of toxins in blood. However, this does not mean dialysis is needed in such a case. In general, if patients suffer no problems like pulmonary edema, skin itching and severe vomiting, and meanwhile their potassium level is still in the normal range, dialysis can be delayed. However, if their potassium is very high or they are suffering from above mentioned problems, dialysis should be considered.

Dialysis only reduces creatinine level and does not repair kidney damages

For high creatinine level 500, it can be reduced by dialysis, but we can not expect kidney failure can be cured after dialysis. As a matter of fact, dialysis is just a renal replacement method and it is not a real treatment at all. Kidney function declines because of damaged kidney tissues which play different role while kidneys are functioning. Therefore, if we want to get kidney function improved, we need to repair injured kidney tissues.

All in all, creatinine level 500 is really a high level, but it is just a clinical manifestation of kidney disease. Dialysis is able to get it reduced, but can not get kidney function improved.
