Once Creatinine Level Goes Up, Can It Go Down Again

once creatinine level goes up, can it go down againOnce creatinine level goes up, can it do down again? If yes, how? People with kidney problem are always concerned about serum creatinine level, because this helps to decide whether they need to do dialysis or not. Well, once creatinine level goes up, can it go down again?

Creatinine is one of the wastes produced in the body. Similar with many other kinds of wastes like urea nitrogen, they are removed out of the body through urine by kidneys. Therefore, when kidney function is impaired, creatinine build up in blood, leading to high serum creatinine level. In general, the higher the serum creatinine level, the poorer the kidney function.

For high serum creatinine level, it is possible for it to go down again. We know creatinine level goes up due to impaired kidney, so as long as we strengthen kidney and improve renal function, excess creatinine will be removed out of the body. Consequently, serum creatinine level decreases.

High creatinine level means at least a half of kidney function is impaired. In a damaged kidney, there are three groups of kidney intrinsic cells: healthy kidney intrinsic cells, injured kidney intrinsic cells and dead kidney intrinsic cells.

Healthy kidney intrinsic cells:

For healthy kidney intrinsic cells, they need to be strengthened, so as to protect them from being affected.

Injured kidney intrinsic cells:

Actually, kidney cells are just like cells in our hand. Whey they are mild damaged, they get recovery by themselves. However, if they are severely damaged, medical treatment is need to help them get recovery, and if we do not do so, they will finally dead, leaving scar there. Therefore, for our injured kidney intrinsic cells, there is chance to get them recovered.

Dead kidney intrinsic cells:

Dead kidney intrinsic cells can not be brought back to life again, so there is nothing we can do for them.

High creatinine level is due to impaired kidney function, so as long as we repair injured kidney intrinsic cells to improve kidney function, creatinine level goes down.
