Diet Plan for High Creatinine 8

Diet Plan for High Creatinine 8What is the diet plan if our serum creatinine level is as high as 8? High creatinine level indicates kidney problem, so when our serum creatinine level is higher than normal range, we need to pay attention to our daily diet and avoid foods that are bad for our kidneys. Well, what to eat and not to eat when our creatinine level in blood increases to 8? What is the guidance?

1. Protein intake

High creatinine level 8 means kidney failure. Kidney failure means kidneys can not help to maintain the normal life again. In such a case, if we have started dialysis, we need to increase protein intake to 1.2 grams per kilogram of body weight per day, so as to replenish the protein lost during dialysis. However, if we have not started dialysis, then we need to limit protein intake to 0.2 gram per kilogram of body weight per day. Besides, 60% of the protein should be high quality protein which can be gotten from lean meat, fish, egg white and milk.

2. Low-sodium diet

Kidney failure is always accompanied with high blood pressure which needs to be brought under control if creatinine level in blood is as high as 8. With elevated blood pressure, low-sodium diet is needed, because high sodium intake will cause further elevation of blood pressure, which is not beneficial for our kidney. Salt is the most common source for sodium in our daily life, so low-salt diet or sodium-free diet is needed if our serum creatinine increases 8.

3. Potassium intake

Creatinine level in blood reflects kidney condition and serum creatinine level 8 means failure of kidney. Failed kidney can not maintain electrolyte balance any more, so we run high risk for electrolyte disturbance like hyperkalemia when our creatinine level becomes high. Under such a condition, we need to stay far away from high potassium foods like banana, spinach, grape and nuts and so on.

4. High calcium foods

High calcium foods are good food options when our creatinine level is elevated and ingesting much more calcium helps to prevent or alleviate renal bone osteopathy which usually presents as bone pain, bone fracture and osteoporosis.

Lastly, diet is an important part for the tight control of creatinine level and kidney condition, but we can not get our creatinine level lowered down to the normal range just by making diet changes. Serum creatinine level increases as damaged kidney can not excrete excess creatinine produced by the body, so only when kidney function is improved, can high creatinine level 8 be lowered down permanently.
