Can We Eat Peanut with IgA NephropathyPeanut is of high nutritional value, so it is deeply loved by all the people. Well, once being affected by IgA Nephropathy, can we eat peanut as casually as before?

What is IgA Nephropathy?

IgA Nephropathy is a kidney disorder related with immune system. IgA is the abbreviation of Immunoglobulin A which is an important antibody. In normal condition, IgA helps us fight against harmful substances, but in IgA Nephropathy, due to immune disorder, large amounts of IgA deposit in mesangial area, which can cause inflammatory response. This kind of immune response is very harmful for surrounding kidney tissues. Kidney function declines when some of kidney tissues fail to work normally. One of the major jobs of our kidneys is to help us filter blood and during this process, they remove metabolic wastes out of the body with urine. Therefore, we need to be careful about our daily diet once being affected by IgA Nephropathy.

Can we eat peanut with IgA Nephropathy?

Peanuts is very common in our daily diet and it can be eaten in different ways like salted, dry roasted, boiled and even raw. Peanuts are of great nutritional value and regular peanut consumption can provide us with necessary nutrients like protein, fat, vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin E, vitamin K, calcium and phosphorus.

However, when we are living with IgA Nephropathy, we need to avoid eating too much peanut, because:

1. It increases blood lipid

IgA Nephropathy is an autoimmune illness which can cause progressive decline of kidney function. In such a case, risk for hyperlipidemia is increased. Therefore, if we are have high blood lipid due to IgA Nephropathy, we need to stay far away from peanut.

2. It is rich in potassium

Another function job of our kidneys is to maintain electrolyte balance, and when kidneys fail to do this job, electrolyte imbalance appears. Hyperkalemia is a common electrolyte problem when kidneys fail to work well, so with IgA Nephropathy, we need to avoid eating too much peanut at one time, so as to prevent or avoid worsening hyperkalemia problem.

Peanut is really a good nutritional supplement, but if it is recommended for IgA Nephropathy depends on the specific illness condition. If you still have any question about this topic, please email us your questions:chinakidneytherapy@gmail.com, or ask online doctor for help directly.
